I've never seen THAT before

By G. Emrich
It's not often that I watch a baseball game and can honestly say "I've never seen that before". But last night in Colorado that's exactly what happened.
For those of you who haven't seen it or were unaware of the circumstances under which it happened, here's a recap. The first place Reds were in Colorado to face the suddenly red hot Rockies. With the game tied 5-5 in the eighth inning, the Rockies' Chris Nelson stole home, which while noteworthy, is certainly not unique. What made this play incredible was the fact that the pitcher was right handed and throwing from the stretch, which basically means he's facing third base. AND, Nelson took off before Masset (Reds' reliever) even lifted his leg to deliver the pitch.
So to summarize, Nelson decided to try and steal home with a right-handed pitcher facing him from the stretch position, something no sane player ever does, which is proven by the fact that I'm not sure anyone has stolen home under those circumstances in my lifetime. It was an unconscionably stupid decision. Fortunately, Masset had his head down and was peeking at first base (where there was another Colorado base runner), and panicked when the crowd started to react to Nelson breaking for home. You can see play here-
