Philly in the Finals
By B.Lee
In 1977 I was born. In 1986 I gained Philly sports consciousness. And since that moment in 1986, Philly teams have gone 1-7 in Finals and 8-9 in Conference Finals.

Sixers-1-0
2001-Eastern Con. Finals Win (Bucks)
So basically, Philly teams have made the final four 17 times in myviewing span...and won once.
And it's not much better if you goback to '76:
From '76 to 84, the Sixers had one championship outof seven trips to the semifinals.
Phils played for the pennant 5 times, but won only one WS
Flyers madethe semifinals 5 times, no championships
Birds with their Super BowlL.
So, since the Flyboys won those back-to-back Championships,Philly squads have made the final four 35 times...and won three times.
Starting again in 1986, and with the exception of maybe the 1997 Cup finals, I think we were aunderdog every time.
Take a look at the 7 teams we've lost toin the finals in that span. (At least we didn't lose to chumps)
1987Oilers- Won 5 cups in 7 years
1997 Red Wings- Won back to back Cupsand 3 in a 6 year span.
2001 Lakers- Won 3 titles in a row
2004Patriots- Won 3 Super Bowls in a 4 year span
1993 Blue Jays- Won backto back titles
TBD how good the 2009 Yanks and the 2010Blackhawks will go down in history, but both will probably be very goodteams for at least the next 3-4 years. The Hawks are really young andthe Yankees are the Yankees.
Lets hope things work out a little better for my kids.

Sad but true. Thank God for the '08 Phillies!
