Phils Draft

Posted by G. Emrich

Here's a look at the Phils selections in rounds 2-4 today-

Perci Garner-
Perci Garner doesn't have an extensive college resume due to him beginning his career as a QB for the Ball State football team.  But we can assume that the Phils brass cared more about his impressive strikeout totals and good performance in the Great Lakes Summer League, than they did about his ERA.

Cameron Rupp only hit .317 this year for Texas, but also hit .317 in the prestigious Cape Cod summer league last summer, where wood bats are the name of the game.  He's a big, tough kid who has baseball in his blood.

Ryan Morgado had a poor 2010 season,7.90 ERA,73 hits and 36 walks in only 68.1 innings.  He's always had high strikeout totals during his career, and that combined with the fact that he's a lefty means that he's an attractive prospect to MLB teams.  He also excelled in the Cape Cod league, posting 47 strikeouts in 32.1 innings, while only giving up 17 hits.  It's clear the Phils are placing far more importance on his Cape Cod/wood bat performance.  His best ERA in three seasons at Tennessee was 4.59 (as a freshman), which also happened to be his best season overall.
